Educator Well-Being/Self-Care

What is self-care?

Self-care means checking in with yourself to make sure your needs are being met. Social emotional well-being is not just for students. As adults we should work to build upon the 5 SEL competencies; self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision making and relationship skills. Because SEL is a process, we should strive to continually grow and deepen our knowledge and coping strategies. To be at your best, we need to nurture our emotional and mental health needs. Adults who practice a self-care routine increase long term health by building resiliency and managing stress. Self-care does not mean the same thing for everyone. Different people will adopt different self-care practices.
