Position: VOWS Child Outreach Project Director

Salary: $38,000              

Location:  VOWS Office, Warwick Early Learning Center 325 Miantonomo Dr., Warwick, RI  02888


Position Purpose:

The Child Outreach Project Director is principally responsible for compliance with the protocols and mandates of the child outreach developmental screening initiative as stipulated by the Rhode Island Department of Education. To that end, this will include outreach to and screening of Warwick families of 3, 4 & 5 year olds.


Responsibilities / Reports:

  • Position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Volunteer of Warwick Schools (VOWS).
  • VOWS, Inc. Personnel manages a group of trained certified volunteers.
  • Must adhere to and maintain strict policies of confidentiality issues and matters.
  • Maintain each child’s screening location date, submission date, referral, etc., in Google Sheets.
  • Attend monthly meetings with Executive Director and Child Outreach Coordinator.
  • Must attend all RIDE trainings yearly as directed.

Education/Experience: • Minimum two (2) year Associate’s Degree in Education/Special Education

• Minimum five (5) years’ work experience in Early Childhood

• Notary experience a plus or ability to qualify as a Rhode Island Notary Public



Physical Demands and Conditions Requirements:

• General office environment, sitting and viewing computer monitors for extended periods.

• Position requires standing, walking, and a valid driver’s license for driving to Open Houses and K.I.D.S. Days, as well as other fundraising events.


 Nature and Scope:

This position reports directly to the Executive Director.  The position of the Child Outreach Project Director requires outstanding organizational ability, acute attention to detail. The Child Outreach Project Director is responsible for scheduling screening appointments and maintaining screening schedules. This person must be in direct contact with preschools and schedule these facilities for screening during the school year. Other responsibilities are checking each screening for accuracy, entering screenings into the KidsNet database and sending out result letters. Also, the Child Outreach Project Director must provide yearly training for volunteers and school department personnel as requested, in the screening protocol that is being used.

The Child Outreach Project Director works inconjuction with the Child Outreach Coordinator and may at times have to attend Early Childhood Meetings. This position requires training in data entry for the KidsNet database.  This position requires the skill of leadership and mentoring, tact and knowledge in assessing inadequacies in work performed, and proficiency in the ability to instruct trained volunteers in the proper manner to correct deficiencies when noted. In addition, the Child Outreach Project Director should have a proven understanding of policies and procedures as they pertain to the execution of all work performed in compliance with RIDE procedures and mandates.


The Child Outreach Project Director will attend Open House and Kindergarten Introduction Discovery School Day (K.I.D.S.) Days at Warwick Public Elementary schools when the schedule allows.  Attendance at and support of VOWS events and fundraising activities is required.


The Child Outreach Project Director will provide the Executive Director with a monthly typed assessment of all pending, in-progress, and completed work, and a typed report for each Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors. This written assessment will include recommendations to make improvements in delivery of Child Outreach Developmental Screening as appropriate.


Effectiveness in this position can be measured by the incumbent’s ability to meet goals, attract, train, direct, and retain screening volunteers. 



Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM during the academic year.

VOWS is based on a 26 biweekly pay period.

Must adhere to Warwick Public Schools COVID-19 policies and procedures.

This is a non-union position and is not eligible for benefits.
