ABSENCE/TARDINESS

All children are expected to be in attendance each day unless they are ill or a family emergency arises. Please call the school (734-3480) before 9:30 a.m. whenever your child is absent or tardy. Students who arrive late must first report to the school office. Parents are required to submit a written excuse for each period of absence or late arrival.

ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL

Parents may drop off or pick up their children on Warwick Neck Avenue where there is a designated Safety Cross-Walk and a School Crossing Guard. Children should proceed down the sidewalk on Lennox Avenue and go directly to the playground or the vicinity of the door their class uses to enter the school. In the best interest of safety, children should not be on the school property prior to 8:45.
Children may be dropped off or picked up on Rocky Point Avenue. Children should walk through into the school yard and proceed to the vicinity of the door their class uses to enter the school.
On inclement days, parents may utilize the Lennox Avenue entrance to drop off children in front of the school, but should be prepared to pick them up on Rocky Point Avenue or Warwick Neck Avenue at the end of the day.

EARLY DISMISSAL

If a child must be dismissed early, parents must send a written note to the teacher before or on the morning of the requested release. The parent or guardian must call for the child at the office at the time of the requested dismissal, and must sign the early release book.

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS

Occasionally, emergencies arise at school when it becomes necessary to send the children home before their regular dismissal time. Parents must make arrangements for the care of their children, and should discuss these plans with their children. Bus children will be delivered to their assigned stops.

HOMEWORK GUIDELINES

The following general guidelines are provided to make you aware of the average amount of homework at each grade level. Homework assignments should gradually increase in difficulty and frequency throughout the grades.

Kindergarten    Review the child's day with him/her, using papers brought home as a starting point.
Grade 1             An average of 10-15 minutes
Grade 2            An average of 15-20 minutes
Grade 3            An average of 20-25 minutes
Grade 4            An average of 30-45 minutes
Grade 5            An average of 40-50 minutes
Grade 6            An average of 45-60 minutes

If your child is spending a significant amount of time beyond the average listed above, feel free to contact the teacher to set up a conference.

ILLNESS/MEDICATION

If your child becomes seriously ill at school, we will contact you immediately. If we cannot reach you, we will use the emergency contact information you have provided. Please remember we cannot keep seriously ill children at school.

Medication can be administered only by the school nurse at a designated time during the school day. Students who need to take prescribed medication at a designated time must have the appropriate form signed by the physician and parent before the medication can be brought to school. The medication and form must be left in the office.

LIBRARY

Borrowed books should be returned on time and in good condition. Damaged books should be returned to the librarian for repair and should not be repaired at home. It is the responsibility of the parent to reimburse the school depreciated replacement cost for any book that is lost or damaged beyond repair. Final report cards will be held until the matter is resolved.

SCHOOL DRESS

Children should dress appropriately for school and the weather. Please be sure that clothing with words printed on them are in good taste.  Clothing must cover the torso and be non-disruptive to the learning environment. Sneakers are needed for physical education classes, and play clothes are encouraged for art activities.

VISITORS

All visitors must check in at the school office and must wear a visitor badge.  They may not loiter in the building. Conferences are scheduled at a time convenient for the parent and teacher, when they do not interrupt or interfere with class.

Students are not permitted to have visitors during the school day.
