| The K-12 Physical Education Curriculum is designed to accomplish the following
goals: 1. To develop skills, knowledge, and understanding of lifetime physical activities. 2. To develop positive attitudes and behaviors through participation in cooperative activities. 3. To provide opportunities for students to develop a strong sense of self-esteem and a positive self-concept. 4. To develop an understanding and awareness of the importance of physical fitness. 5. To provide students with information and knowledge that will raise their fitness level. 6. To provide tools for students to evaluate their own fitness levels. 7. To provide opportunities for positive social interaction and sportsmanship in a variety physical activity settings. |

| K-12 Physical Education Standards | |
| Students will: Standard 1: Demonstrate competency in many and proficiency in a few movement forms. Standard 2: Apply movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills. Standard 3: Exhibit a physically active lifestyle. Standard 4: Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. Standard 5: Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings. Standard 6: Demonstrate an understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings. Standard 7: Understand that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction. ___________________________ NOTE: The above standards have been adopted from the National Standards for Physical Education developed by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, 1995. |
