SECTION 504 GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

   
  A 504 Grievance shall mean a complaint by a student or parent of a student in which there is an allegation that discrimination, on the basis of a disability, has occurred.
  The parent may file a grievance alleging discrimination as a result of what they or others perceive to be an action related to a disability and the consequent student's inability to be successful due to this disability related action.
  The complainant shall notify the school principal or district 504 coordinator, of any/all grievances. Notification may be verbal or written.
  The complainant resolution shall be initiated at the lowest possible level. The initial complaint shall be filed with or referred to the principal. The principal shall communicate his/her written decision to the complainant within five (5) school days after having received the complaint. A copy of both the complaint and response shall be forwarded to the 504 district coordinator at the Special Services Department.
  If the complainant feels the decision of the principal is not satisfactory, the complainant may submit a written request for an appeal of the said decision within seven (7) school days, to the Superintendent of Schools.
  In the event the complainant feels the action of the Superintendent/Designee is not satisfactory, the complainant may file directly with the U. S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights. However, Section 504 does not require that a grievant utilize or exhaust an internal grievance procedure prior to filing a complaint with OCR:
