| Welcome to Elsie Robertson School, with our
roots in the past and our vision in the future.
|
| Mission: |
|
The mission of Robertson School is
to create a positive cohesive community where students
can excel academically and socially to reach their full
potential as lifelong learners. |
| History: |
| The Nausauket School is a one-story flat roofed brick
building folded into the fabric of the surrounding residential neighborhood.
It was designed by local architect S. Wesley MacConnell and built in 1947.
It was the first modern era school in the city and became a prototype for
schools across the country. It's signature element is a central portico
of rusticated piers, flanked by medallions depicting the eastern and western
hemispheres of the globe. These are important historically as representing
an educational system of a nation with worldwide horizon; drastically different
from that of a few years earlier. The name of the school was changed
to the Elsie Gibson Robertson School on June 10, 1974 in memory of Mrs.
Robertson, who was principal of the school for many years. |
