Minutes from the March 5, 2008 Potowomut PTA Meeting


The meeting was called to order at 6:37 pm by President Nina Lusignan

 

Secretary’s Report:  Carolyn Norman

-         Reviewed the minutes from the 1/9/08 meeting.

-         There was one correction the Spring Social will be 5/16.

-   Approved by: Christina DuFault and seconded by Amanda Dutilly

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Tina Dean

- Reviewed the budget

- Approved by: Patty Albies and seconded by Nina Lusignan

 

Principal’s Report:  Miss Feeney

-   The Smart Board is being setup in the library. We needed a wire and a new outlet. We are waiting for the board to be delivered and the laptop has been ordered.

-   The Weather Station will be coming soon. It is a monitoring system on the roof that is wired in the hall.

- The Math-A-Thon is completed.

- There is still work being done on the Literacy Library. Two shelves are finished.

 

Fundraisers:

-   Yankee Candles: Starts tomorrow and goes through the end of the month. This is the last fundraiser of the year.

-   Calendars:  Seventeen people haven’t returned the calendars or paid for them. Letters have already been sent to these people.

March Raffle winners were: Bradley Van Wort and Gloria Capuano. The prizes were a Chelo’s gift certificate and a gift certificate to Whispers Hair Salon.

-   We discussed a fundraising opportunity where we collect clothing and a company buys them for 13 cents a pound. The company goes through the clothes and sends then to other countries overseas. We were thinking about collecting clothes the day after the Community Yard Sale in March (Sunday) and having them picked up by the company on Monday.
 

Teacher’s Representative: 

Mrs. Thomas said she was appreciative of the Adopt-A-Class money. She said she has bought some educational CDs.
 

Standing Committees/Old Business:

-    Boys’ Night Out:  It will be April 5th at Wickford Bowling Lanes from 4:00-6:00. 17 families have signed up so far. $10/family.

- After school play:  Flyer went out. Auditions on March 25th and 26th.  Students choose Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs for rehearsal days.

- Spring Social:  It will be on Friday May 16th.  Decorating workshop will be May 7th. The girls will be making decorations that will hang on the walls during the dance. There will be assorted food and Photos by Karen.

-   Book Fair:  It will be May 12th and May 13th. Possibly May 14th before the PTA meeting. Family event will be an Ice Cream Social on May 13th. Need volunteers for Tuesday.

-   Lip Sync:  There are 8acts that have signed up. Another notice will go out in April for more acts. Music no later than May 1st.

-   Adopt-A-Class:  Every class has been adopted.

 -   Teacher Appreciation:  Patty Albies will having knee surgery and will be unable to do Teacher Appreciation this year. Volunteers are needed for this.

-   Gallery Night:  This will be March 27th from 6:00-8:00. The Art teacher will be sending out a flyer. Volunteers are needed to write out tags with students names/grades and help set-up/clean-up.
