Dear Holliman School Parents and Guardians,

On May 5th Holliman School will be hosting a visit from forty-three students from Christopher Rhodes School.  The students will be transferred to Holliman for the opening of school in August, due to the recent district school consolidations which closed Rhodes.  We will give the children a tour of our school and the opportunity to meet students who will be in classes with them next year, as well as meeting the teachers.  The parents of these students have been invited for a school tour and to attend our PTSO meeting on May 15th.  I know you will join the faculty and me in giving our new Holliman families a warm welcome!

At the May 15th PTSO meeting we are planning a special English Language Arts Program with the emphasis on how you can help your children become better readers.  Details will follow, but please mark your calendars!

Our fourth grade students will be participating in NECAP Science testing on May 20, 21 and 22.  Please make every effort to insure that your students are in school on those days and as always please make sure they have had a good night’s rest and have eaten a good breakfast.  Thank you!

On May 20th our school lunch program will be having our annual “family cook-out”, weather permitting.  Your children will be eating during their regular lunch periods which are as follows:

Grades 5 and 6        11:35 – 12:15

Grades 3 and 4        12:00 – 12:40

Grades 1 and 2        12:25 –   1:05

Recently the Warwick Public Schools School Committee adopted a new attendance policy.  It will be included in the school handbook which you will receive in August.  Before that time I am planning to have it posted on Holliman’s website so you can get an idea of what the policy says.  Please look for it on our website within the next few weeks.

During the spring it seems that more parents pick up their children after school in order to get homework done before baseball practice.  The increase of cars creates a noticeable traffic backup.  I would ask you, for the safety of all of our children, to please abide by the posted signs.  We have a clearly established pattern for one-way traffic and we have frequently requested that if you intend to get out of your car to go inside the school that you park in a designated parking spot.  We also request in the interest of safety that you form only one line to pick up your children.  Thank you for your help.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Have a great spring!

Sincerely,

Kathryn B. Keenan
