Providence College
Saturday, 21 Gorton students competed with 500 students from across the
state at Providence College for the National History Day Rhode Island
competition. Gorton Students did quite well and won the following
awards.
Term Paper:
1st Place – Haley Keirnan for her paper entitled,
“Radar: The Technology that Saved Western Civilization
Individual Exhibits:
1st Place – Amy Sevigny for her exhibit entitled,
“Public and Subscription Libraries: Providing the Power of
Knowledge to America”
Group Exhibits:
1st Place – Jenna Fontaine, Nicole Luiz, & Rachel
Gousie for their exhibit entitled, “The WPA: A New Role for
Government” 2nd
Place – Emily Almonte, Jen Condon & Lauren Almonte for their
exhibit entitled, “The Camera: A Mirror with a Memory”
Group Performance:
1st Place – Gillian Tiley & Joe Silva for their
performance entitled, “Penicillin: An innovation that saves
lives”
Individual Performance:
3rd Place – Dan Cryan for his performance entitled,
“The Manhattan Project”
Group Documentary:
2nd Place – Jeremy Morrissette & Kyle Marquisette for
their documentary entitled, “The Columbia Space Shuttle: A New
Reusable Space Transportation System”
Individual Documentary:
3rd Place – James Maynard for his documentary
entitled, “A Wild Boar has Ravaged Thy Vineyards: Martin Luther
Establishes a New Way to Practice Christianity”

website entitled, “Leonardo Da Vinci’s Innovation of Portraying
Emotion Through Artwork”
Special Award given by the Rhode
Island Labor Museum:
$100 – Trent Mochel for his website entitled, “Minimum Wage in
Rhode Island”
Special Award given by the
Italian/American Society:
$100 - – Jackie Esmay & Devon Eckert for their website entitled,
“Leonardo Da Vinci’s Innovation of Portraying Emotion Through
Artwork”

students that finished 1st or 2nd will represent
Rhode Island at the National History Day competition to be held at the
University of Maryland At College Park on June 14th to June 17th

March 27 and 28, 3 seventh grade
and 3 eighth grade students from Gorton JHS competed in the Rhode Island
State Science and Engineering Fair.
