7th Grade Visual Arts: Miss Gayer

7th grade students in visual arts receive an overview of fine arts. They will study traditional artists, as well as, contemporary artists and artwork. Content/subject matter of art projects are based on collaborations with the other content teachers in order for the students to make connections across the curriculum. The students will participate in a variety of art making while in the studio. The type of project/techniques that they learn is based on how much time the students have class, during the 7 period schedule. A majority of the students receive a total of 23 days per quarter for visual arts class. The students rotate to a different department in Tech Ed each quarter.

The curriculum, for the 7th grade students, is directed to prepare all visual arts students for the new requirements for Graduation by Proficiency. The new graduation requirements states that ALL STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE PROFICIENCY IN THE FINE ARTS FOR COMMISSIONER’S REVIEW IN 2011. More information on proficiency and the arts can be found at: www.riartslearning.net.

Any parents/guardians with questions or concerns can feel free to contact me by leaving a message with the main office or by scheduling an appointment with guidance.

Let’s have a happy and healthy 2007-2008 school year!

Sincerely, Miss Gayer

8th Grade Visual Arts: Mrs. Dickinson

My 8th graders have had a challenging and introspective quarter!  I only wish students were not leaving, so that they may continue on their creative journeys. Visual Art plays  such a vital role in students' social and emotional growth at this stage of development its a shame our time together is so short!

Students have been working hard on creating symbols based on their experiences to create a personal visual vocabulary. They have been using these symbols in a multimedia a collage that incorporates block printing, acrylic painting, photomontage and drawing. Each symbol was prescribed a number and used within their collage according to relevance in their lives. The combined images are composed together in a layered fashion indicating how we, as humans, contain individual ideas and experiences and are all layered in different ways. They have learned about 20th century Visual Artist, Marc Chagall, and have been introduced to the theory of "the collective unconscious" by psychologist Carl Jung. Their work is finally finishing up and can be seen displayed throughout the school.

Come and check it out!

Sincerely, Mrs. Dickinson
