Principal’s Message

The countdown for the closing of the 2009 – 2010 year is underway.  The last day of school is Tuesday, June 22nd.  Our school’s calendar is filling up day by day.  The Faculty and PTO continue to schedule a number of great activities for our students to enhance their educational and social experiences.  The students have had a productive year making great progress and adjusting well with the procedures that the faculty, staff and I set in place at the on-set of the 2009 – 2010 school year.  I am extremely proud of their accomplishments and I applaud you (the parents) for instilling the love of learning and setting high expectations for your child(ren) to meet.

Our students have done many “Good Deeds” for the Feinstein Program this year.  We’ve collected money, canned goods, school and medical supplies to aid local charities and for the families in Haiti.  Our most recent event was the Cedar Hill’s Walk for Diabetes.

Wednesday, May 5th was National Physical Education Day! Each year since 1994, children at Cedar Hill have participated in a school-wide physical activity for Project A.C.E. S. the first Wednesday of May.  Project ACES™, an acronym for All Children Exercise Simultaneously, engages millions of children, parents, and teachers each year to participate in physical activity at their schools and at home. Through Project ACES™, children learn the value and importance (and fun!) of good nutrition, physical fitness, and making healthy lifestyle choices – lessons they can carry well into adulthood.

After a brief opening ceremony, approximately 500 students, staff, and parents walked 1 mile through the Red Chimney neighborhood at 10 am.  The green and white walked with pride to celebrate healthy lifestyles and create an awareness of juvenile diabetes.  Signs were posted throughout the walk indicating informative facts about diabetes.  Ms. “Narissa” from JDRF gave some comments and thanks to the students, with grateful appreciation for the $1100 in donations.  It was a fun morning, as Cedar Hill kids became part of the “WORLD’S LARGEST EXERCISE CLASS” around the world, and did another Feinstein Good Deed in the process!

The generosity shown is a true reflection of the wonderful community in which we reside.

Congratulations to Mrs. Natalie Turner, Cedar Hill’s Volunteer of the year.  Mrs. Turner received this award at the Annual Awards Reception held on April 29, 2010.   Natalie Turner has been a dedicated Cedar Hill volunteer for a number of years. For the last several years she has spearheaded our well-respected Art Masters program dedicating countless hours organizing volunteers, cataloguing prints, maintaining lesson plans, and serving as a central point of communication for all the school's Art Masters volunteers. In addition to the hours spent on the Art Masters program Natalie has never hesitated to help out in other areas when needed.  This year alone she's dedicated time to both the book fair and the holiday shop and also volunteered as a parent representative when the Education Commissioner visited in the fall.  The children, staff and parents of Cedar Hill are incredibly lucky to have Natalie's time and talents as part of our community and she is most deserving of this wonderful recognition.

“The Amazing Races” Field Day will be held on Monday, June 7th, with June 8th as the rain date.  Mrs. Tetreault is seeking volunteers to help create the “races” themes, and to work on June 7th.  Please contact the VOW’s Coordinators, Mrs. Hayes or Mrs. Cuddy if you are interested in helping out.

I would like to thank the Cedar Hill faculty, staff and families for all their support, encouragement and assistance making my first year at Cedar Hill a rewarding and memorable one.

Mr. Joseph D. Peltier
