Philosophy: Learning is a thinking process in which students construct a knowledge base
through conceptualization and reflection. Learning is most effective and students become empowered when they are given responsibility for their own learning, when learning occurs in a meaningful context, and when they are expected to be highly active in the cognitive domain.
Our tradition is based on progressive technological advancement. Inherent in this dynamic tradition is the reality that the American worker must adjust to rapid changes occurring in all occupational areas. The Warwick Area Career-Technical educational delivery system is responsive to this challenge and strives to have the latest technology available for the students to learn with. The Warwick Area Career-Technical Center has the capability of adjusting and modifying its programs to reflect the needs of the Warwick area citizens and its economy.
The purpose of Career and Technical education is to prepare students for initial entry into the workforce with certain competencies and skills which will allow them to enter, compete, and advance in a trade, industry, technical or service occupation, or to further their education.
Career-Technical education prepares students for the world of work with the realization that education is a life long learning process; and excellence, with high expectations, is the main criteria for success in life. Education which prepares students for life in a complex society requires an academic base that supports and enhances career-technical skills, includes business/industry/community/family in a school-to-career environment and advisory capacity, and provides after school activities and organizations to foster a sense of school pride, identity, and volunteerism to the community.
Essential to all education is the existence of a positive learning environment which emphasizes a caring and accepting atmosphere, and allows the professional staff, students, and all involved, to have continuous growth and a feeling of belonging.
The faculty and staff of the Warwick Area Career and Technical Center are dedicated to maintaining an educational and social atmosphere in which the individual potential of each student is recognized, encouraged, and developed. This dedication provides the highest quality career training, which enables each student to attain his/her maximum potential and ability.
Students are encouraged to develop those positive attitudes, appreciations and ideals which will enable them to function successfully and productively in the community. In addition, they are guided towards becoming mature adults who will recognize their options and obligations to act freely and responsibly in a society that stresses equal rights and opportunities for all members.
