Dear Norwood Families:
I hope everyone had a safe and
enjoyable summer vacation and that your children are
eager to return to school. The teachers and staff
have been working hard during the past two weeks in
preparation of their arrival.
Mr. Ed Minett and Mr. John
Rowan have done a marvelous job throughout the
summer months to get Norwood looking shipshape. I
encourage us all to help them keep Norwood looking
as it does now.
Starting and dismissal
times will remain the same. School will begin at
8:55 a.m. and be dismissed at 3:05 p.m. Morning
kindergarten begins at 8:55 a.m. and dismisses at
11:40 a.m. The p.m. session begins at 12:20 p.m.
and dismisses at 3:05 p.m.
STUDENTS WILL NOT BE
ALLOWED ON SCHOOL GROUNDS BEFORE 8:35 A.M. THIS IS
A SAFETY PRECAUTION AS THERE WILL BE NO YARD
SUPERVISION BEFORE THIS TIME.
If your child is going to
the breakfast program, it starts at 8:30 a.m.
Students should enter through the back door in the
cafeteria.
The price of hot lunch is
$2.50; breakfast will be $1.85. Reduced lunch will
remain at $.40 and reduced breakfast at $.30. Milk
purchased separately will cost $.60.
Please take the time to
read the Norwood School Student Handbook that will
be brought home by your child. All pertinent school
information is addressed in it, including the very
important traffic pattern.
There will be changes to
our lunch schedule this year. First, we
will have just two lunches. First lunch for grades
1, 2 and 4 will be from 11:30 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.
Second lunch for grades 3, 5 and 6 will be from
12:15 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. Also, we are going to try
a recess before lunch (RBL) schedule. This means
that all students will have
recess the first twenty minutes
of their lunch period and then come into the
cafeteria to eat. This schedule has proven to be
advantageous for a variety of reasons. I will
elaborate on these at a later date.
There are many forms that
need to be filled out and returned to school.
Please do so as soon as possible as many contain
information needed in case of emergency. We need to
know how to contact you if necessary. Insurance
payments should be returned to school by Tuesday,
September 28th.
I am confident that the
students of Norwood will have a productive year
emotionally, socially, cognitively and physically.
The PTA would like to
extend an invitation to all parents for a short
“Welcome Back” coffee and refreshment get together
on the first day of school at 9:00 a.m. in the All
Purpose Room. At this time, your child’s
class and teacher will be posted.
I look forward to meeting all
families, old and new during the next few weeks and
anticipate a wonderful Open House and PTA meeting on
September 16, 2010 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. As always,
please feel free to visit or call if you have any
questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Nancy Plumb
Principal
